Domani è in programma uno storico derby ligure di Serie B. Al PalaFigoi di Genova alle 18:00 si affronteranno la Pallacanestro Sestri e lo Spezia Basket Club. Da un lato i Seagulls, società giovane e ambiziosa al suo primo anno di Serie B, mentre dall’altra i Bianconeri, società blasonata che ha scritto pagine di storia in regione, di ritorno in categoria a più di 40 anni di distanza. In attesa della sfida ecco un’intervista a Rimantas Daunys e Giedrius Sakalas, giocatori lituani delle due società:
Come giudichi questa vostra prima fase di campionato?
Rimantas Daunys: «Stiamo incontrando delle difficoltà. La prima parte della stagione non sta andando come avevamo pianificato, abbiamo ancora bisogno di tempo per conoscere meglio i nostri compagni di squadra, approfondire il sistema del coach. In questo momento abbiamo solo bisogno di un paio di vittorie per sollevare il nostro spirito, acquisire un po’ di fiducia e penso che cominceremmo a mostrare un grande basket»
Giedrius Sakalas: «Penso che potremmo fare molto meglio, specialmente in casa. Ma siamo una squadra completamente nuova e siamo ancora nella fase molto iniziale della stagione, quindi credo che miglioreremo il nostro gioco giorno dopo giorno»
Che partita ti aspetti dal punto di vista tecnico?
Rimantas Daunys: «Sarà una sfida molto fisica e difficile. Sono nostri rivali, li abbiamo affrontati in una partita amichevole e abbiamo subito capito che dobbiamo battere questa squadra. Sarà una partita fisica fin dall’inizio!»
Giedrius Sakalas: «Da quanto ho visto, questo campionato è molto equilibrato e ogni squadra può battere l’avversario ogni settimana senza sorprese. Quindi non importa che Sestri sia ultima in classifica al momento, non mi aspetto nulla di facile. In ogni campionato le partite in trasferta sono difficili»
Quale potrebbe essere la chiave della sfida?
Rimantas Daunys: «Passarci la palla. Quando ci fidiamo dei nostri compagni di squadra e giochiamo come un team siamo sempre in partita. Se continuiamo a farlo per 40 minuti, accadranno grandi cose»
Giedrius Sakalas: «La chiave è giocare la nostra partita e non pensare che sarà facile. Dobbiamo iniziare forte e mostrare il nostro temperamento, specialmente dopo due sconfitte consecutive»
Quale il miglior pregio della tua squadra e quale il miglior pregio degli avversari?
Rimantas Daunys: «La nostra squadra è come una famiglia. Anche durante questi momenti difficili tutti restano uniti e si sostengono a vicenda. La nostra migliore qualità è essere un grande team. Spezia ha un buon talento offensivo, grandi tiratori. Dobbiamo essere aggressivi in difesa contro di loro»
Giedrius Sakalas: «Siamo una squadra giovane con molta energia e molta qualità in attacco. Tra gli avversari conosco solo il lituano, ovvero Daunys. Non ho dubbi sul fatto che sia un buon giocatore, quindi credo che siano una squadra talentuosa»
Cosa ti senti di dire ai tuoi tifosi?
Rimantas Daunys: «Abbiamo bisogno del vostro sostegno. Ora, più che mai. Vi promettiamo di dare il 110% in campo, ma abbiamo anche bisogno del nostro sesto giocatore!»
Giedrius Sakalas: «Innanzitutto grazie per il vostro grande sostegno ogni volta al PalaSprint. Con voi è più divertente giocare. E sabato andremo a Sestri per portare a casa la vittoria!»

Tomorrow a historic Ligurian Serie B derby is scheduled. At the PalaFigoi in Genoa, at 06:00 PM, Pallacanestro Sestri and Spezia Basket Club will face off. On one side, the Seagulls, a young and ambitious club in its first year in Serie B, while on the other, the Bianconeri, a prestigious club that has written pages of history in the region, returning to this category after more than 40 years. While waiting for the match, here’s an interview with Rimantas Daunys and Giedrius Sakalas, Lithuanian players from the two clubs:
How do you assess this first phase of your championship?
Rimantas Daunys: «We are struggling. First part of the season is not going as we planned, we still need time to get to know our teammates better, dive deeper into the coaches system. At this point, we just need couple of wins to lift our spirits up, to gain some confidence and I think we would start showing great basketball»
Giedrius Sakalas: «I think we could do much better especially at home. But we are completely new team and now is still very early phase of the season so I believe we are going to improve our game day by day»
What kind of game are you expecting from a technical standpoint?
Rimantas Daunys: «It will be a very physical, very tough fight. It is our rival, we played them in the friendly game and we imidiatly felt that we need to beat this team. It’s gonna be physical from the tip off»
Giedrius Sakalas: «As I have seen this championship is very equal and every team can beat the opponent every week without surprises. So doesn’t matter that Sestri is last in the standings at the moment, I am not expecting nothing easy. In every championship away games is difficult»
What could be the key factor in the match?
Rimantas Daunys: «Sharing the ball. When we trust our teammates and play as a team, we are always in the game. If we continue to do that for 40 minutes, great things will happen»
Giedrius Sakalas: «The key is to play our game and don’t think it’s going to be easy. We got to start strong and show our character especially after two loses in a row»
What is the greatest strength of your team and what is the greatest strength of the opponents?
Rimantas Daunys: «Our team is like a family. Even during theese tough times, everybody sticks together and supports eachother. Our best quality is beeing a great team. Spezia has good offensive talent, great shooters. We need to be agressive against them in defense»
Giedrius Sakalas: «We are young team with good energy and a lot of quality in offence. From opponents I know only lithuanian guy Daunys, I have no doubts he is good player so I believe they are talented team»
What do you feel like saying to your fans?
Rimantas Daunys: «We need your support. Now, more than ever. We promise you to give 110% on the court, but we also need our 6th player»
Giedrius Sakalas: «First of all thank you for your big support every time at Palasprint. With you is more fun to play. And Saturday we are going to Sestri to bring back victory home»
